Clinical research by Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructures for the benefit of patients with common cancers

This grant aims to support evidence-based, tailored, innovative, affordable, and accessible clinical research projects for lung, bowel, breast, or prostate cancer, led by comprehensive cancer infrastructures. Projects should benefit patients afflicted by these cancers by delivering improved diagnostic and treatment programmes, and by fostering collaboration among researchers, healthcare providers, innovators, patients, and stakeholders. The grants also seek to reduce inequalities in research capacity and healthcare provision across European Union Member States and Associated Countries, with a focus on piloting and upscaling solutions in diverse regions, including those with less developed infrastructures.

Grant application conditions

Admissibility	Proposals must adhere to page limits and layout as specified in Annex A and Annex E of the Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes and in Part B of the Application Form.
Eligible Countries	Applicants from EU Member States and Associated Countries are eligible. Some non-EU/non-Associated Countries may participate if they provide their own funding.
Other Eligibility Conditions	Detailed in Annex B of the Work Programme General Annexes.
Financial Capacity	Applicants must demonstrate financial and operational capacity as stated in Annex C.
Applicant Type	National or regional comprehensive cancer infrastructures, which may include cancer centres, hospitals, universities, medical research centers, companies, public health facilities, patient organizations, SMEs, charities, insurance companies, civil society, and foundations.
Geographical Coverage	Projects must pilot and upscale activities in at least four different EU Member States or Associated Countries, including one with a less developed cancer infrastructure.
Collaboration	Applicants must include a mix of stakeholders from various disciplines and sectors (e.g., physicians, academia, patients and caregivers, engineers, SMEs, business networks, research organizations).
Stakeholder Participation	Research programmes should be co-created with patients and their caregivers/families using participative research models.
Data Requirements	Data must be disaggregated by sex, gender, age, and other relevant variables (e.g., socio-economic status, ethnicity). All datasets should be described in the EU dataset catalogue of the European Health Data Space.
Open Science	All tools and models must follow Open Science principles and should be made available via the UNCAN.eu platform, using current European research infrastructures.
Project Clusters	Successful proposals are expected to join the 'Diagnosis and treatment' cluster for the EU Cancer Mission and should budget for networking, meetings, and joint activities.
