Efficient capture / purification / utilisation of CO2 for the production of competitive products (RIA) (Processes4Planet partnership)

This grant aims to support projects enabling significant reduction in production costs of CO2-based products, making them competitive with conventional alternatives. Projects should focus on the integration of CO2 capture, purification, and conversion processes, and demonstrate minimal energy consumption by leveraging advances in process integration, use of renewable electricity, and available heat sources. The scope includes developing new methodologies for the smart integration of CO2 capture, purification, and conversion, reducing energy demand and capital expenditure, and possibly integrating with CCS infrastructures. Projects are expected to address innovative approaches to maximize yield and process efficiency, utilize renewable energy, and conduct comprehensive lifecycle and economic assessments. Demonstrations should be at least at laboratory pilot scale. Proposals must include a business case and exploitation strategy and consider societal, environmental, and workplace impacts. Conversion of CO2 to methanol and fuels is outside the scope of this topic.

Coverage	Funding is provided as a lump sum. All eligible costs are covered as defined under the Horizon Europe rules for lump sum contributions.

Grant application conditions

Eligible applicants	Legal entities (e.g. companies, NGOs, research organisations, public authorities) from EU Member States and associated countries. Other countries may participate subject to eligibility rules.
Consortium requirements	Applications must be submitted by a consortium including at least three independent entities from three different EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon Europe.
Project scope	Develop and integrate new CO2 capture, purification and conversion technologies with focus on energy and cost reduction. Demonstrate solutions at least at laboratory pilot scale. Proposals must exclude conversion of CO2 to methanol and fuels.
Business case and exploitation strategy	Proposals must include a credible business case and exploitation strategy supporting industrial decarbonisation supply chains in Europe.
