EU-African Union – towards climate-neutral, social just fair trade food systems

This grant supports the transition towards climate-neutral, socially just, and fair trade food systems between the European Union and the African Union. In line with the European Green Deal, the farm to fork strategy, and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, the grant aims to accelerate the development of sustainable food systems with neutral or positive environmental impact, while fostering improved trade regimes, innovation, and food system resilience. Key objectives include advancing traceability and certification schemes, scaling up climate-neutral and fair food supply chains, and supporting startups, SMEs, and multidisciplinary actors with cascading funding opportunities.

Grant application conditions

Admissibility Conditions	Described in Annex A and Annex E of the Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes. Proposal page limits and layout as described in Part B of the Application Form available in the Submission System.
Eligible Countries	Described in Annex B. Legal entities established in all African Union member states (including countries whose membership has been temporarily suspended) are exceptionally eligible for EU funding. International organisations headquartered in a Member State or associated country are also eligible.
Consortium Composition	At least three partners from Africa and at least two from the same African Union region.
Multi-actor Approach	The consortium must implement a multi-actor approach involving a wide range of food system actors and interdisciplinary research.
Financial and Operational Capacity	Described in Annex C of the Work Programme General Annexes.

Selection Process for Third Parties	Consortia must define the selection process for organisations receiving financial support.
