The Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument supports interregional cooperation in innovation by promoting the scaling-up and commercialisation of interregional projects in shared or complementary Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) areas. The instrument fosters innovation diffusion and industrial deployment across less developed, transition, and more developed EU regions to strengthen value chains and competitiveness. Strand 2a specifically focuses on integrating innovation actors from less developed and transition regions into European value chains and provides financial and advisory support to bring mature innovations to scale-up and commercialisation. The programme aims to create new value chains, drive adoption of new technologies (TRL 6-9), facilitate collaboration among SMEs, enable knowledge and skill building, and reduce Europe’s innovation divide.
