Leveraging functional genomics to reveal novel targets for cancer treatment

This grant aims to advance the understanding of tumour heterogeneity in cancer initiation and progression, identify novel therapeutic targets, and support the development of next-generation genomically-informed cancer treatments. Projects will focus on integrating and analysing complex, multimodal patient data using advanced methodologies, with an emphasis on paediatric and adolescent cancers, cancers with limited treatment options, refractory or rare cancers, and cancers with low five-year survival rates.

Grant application conditions

Applicant Countries	Eligibility as described in Annex B of the Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes. Participation is open primarily to EU Member States and Associated Countries. Certain non-EU/non-Associated Countries may participate if they have made specific funding provisions.
Application Form	Applicants must use the templates provided in the Submission System. Layout and page limits are described in Parts B, Annex A, and Annex E of the Work Programme General Annexes.
Legal and Financial Capacity	Applicants must demonstrate financial and operational capacity and not be subject to exclusion criteria, as described in Annex C.
Evaluation Thresholds	Criteria thresholds: 4 (Excellence), 4 (Impact), 4 (Implementation). Cumulative threshold: 12.
Grant Duration and Oversight	The granting authority may, up to 4 years after the end of the action, object to a transfer of ownership or to the exclusive licensing of results, as set out in the grant agreement.
Data Sharing	Projects must contribute to the UNCAN.eu research data platform by ensuring data interoperability and sustainable access to developed digital tools and datasets. All datasets produced must be described with metadata records in the EU dataset catalogue of the European Health Data Space.
Stakeholder Involvement	Proposals should include an appropriate mix of stakeholders from disciplines such as medical doctors, health-IT experts, researchers, AI-experts, solution providers, academia, research institutes, EU research infrastructures, and SMEs.
Collaboration and Networking	Successful proposals are expected to collaborate with the UNCAN-CONNECT project implementing the UNCAN.eu research platform. Participation in the 'Understanding' project cluster of the Cancer Mission is required, with a budget for networking, meetings, and joint activities.
Clinical Studies	If clinical studies are included, applicants must provide details in the dedicated annex using the template provided in the submission system.
