MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2027

The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2027 provide funding for excellent researchers undertaking international mobility. The goal is to enhance researchers’ skills, career prospects, and international networks, while strengthening participating organisations’ R&I capacity, research quality, and global reputation. The programme supports both European and Global Postdoctoral Fellowships, encourages inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary experience, and offers optional placements and training activities to boost employability inside and outside academia.

Grant application conditions

Applicant type	Researchers in possession of a doctoral degree (PhD) at the call deadline; must have a maximum of 8 years of full-time research experience after awarding of PhD (excluding career breaks).
Eligible host organisations	Academic or non-academic sector organisations established in EU Member States, Horizon Europe Associated Countries, or, for Global Fellowships, Third Countries (non-associated). For Euratom-related areas, organisations must be established in an EU Member State or a country associated to the Euratom Research and Training Programme.
Mobility rule	Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call deadline.
Fellowship duration	European Fellowships: 12–24 months. Global Fellowships: Outgoing phase: 12–24 months in a Third Country (non-associated), plus a mandatory 12-month return phase in an EU Member State or Associated Country.
Nationality	European Fellowships: Open to researchers of any nationality. Global Fellowships: Open only to nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries.
Secondments	Optional. For European Fellowships, up to half the duration. For Global Fellowships, up to half of outgoing phase and up to 3 months at beneficiary before the outgoing phase. No secondments during the mandatory 12-month return period.
Non-academic placements	Optional. Up to 6 months at the end of the fellowship in a non-academic organisation in the EU Member State or Associated Country, distinct from the host if the host is also non-academic.
Career Development Plan	Mandatory. To be jointly prepared by supervisor(s) and researcher at the start of the fellowship, covering research objectives, training, transferable skills, teaching, publishing, and public engagement, and updated as needed.
ERA Fellowships	Applicants undertaking their fellowship in a Widening Country can be specifically supported by ERA Fellowships under the Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area actions.
