The project aims to support research and innovation actions focusing on the safety of innovative nuclear reactors, including small modular reactors (SMRs) and advanced modular reactors (AMRs). It specifically emphasizes the design, demonstration, and viability of new reactor types and fuel cycles, promoting integration within low-carbon and smart energy systems. Projects are expected to contribute to the development of consistent safety approaches among regulators, establishment of operational rules, advancement in instrumentation and digital technologies, improvement of fuel cycles for enhanced safety, waste minimisation, better resource use, and an overall increased safety and security of next-generation nuclear technologies.
