Support a Young Cancer Survivor Quality of Life (QoL) research programme by cancer charities and funding agencies

This action supports the follow-up to the July 2023 Communication on EU Missions assessment. The programme aims to create a network of registered cancer charities and funding agencies supporting transnational research and innovation projects focused on improving the quality of life of young cancer patients and survivors (children, adolescents, and young adults). Supported projects will enhance physical, emotional, and social well-being and stimulate the accessibility and re-usability of digital data for research, contributing to the future UNCAN.eu data platform. The action targets challenges faced by survivors, their families, and caregivers, delivering innovative solutions and fostering collaboration and open science across EU Member States and Associated Countries.

Grant application conditions

Applicant Type	Consortium of registered cancer charities and funding agencies, based in EU Member States or Associated Countries.
Geographic Eligibility	Applicants must be from countries eligible under the Horizon Europe programme (see Annex B of Work Programme General Annexes).
Proposal Requirements	Organise, fund, and implement at least two transnational calls for research targeting the quality of life of children (0-14 years), adolescents (15-19 years), and young adults (20-39 years) diagnosed with cancer. Ensure all three defined age groups are addressed. Involve direct participation of cancer patients, survivors, survivor organisations, caregivers, and representatives from social sciences and humanities (SSH).
Funding Method	EU funds are for coordination and networking activities; funding of research projects is provided by the network of charities and funding agencies using their own financial resources.
Collaboration Requirement	Applicants must coordinate and organise networking, outreach, and awareness activities with stakeholders, local communities, national authorities, and EU-funded initiatives.
Evaluation Thresholds	Assessment criteria: 4 (Excellence), 4 (Impact), 4 (Implementation). Cumulative threshold: 12.
Reporting and Ownership	All datasets produced must be described in the EU dataset catalogue of the European Health Data Space. Results must follow open science principles and be made available through the future UNCAN.eu platform. The granting authority may object to transfer of ownership or exclusive licensing up to 4 years after action end.
